CHINA

Picture
America became more involved in international affairs.  In 1980 Russia, Japan, Great Britain, France, and Germany established  Spheres of Influence in China so that they could each dominate trade and investment in a part of China. The United States didn't want to lose trade  so John Hays created the concept of an Open Door policy to allow all nations to have equal trading privileges in China.

There was also the Boxer Rebellion where the U.S sent troops to China to end violent acts by boxers against Americans in China.
